Gmail users will soon have more ways to keep up with their friends via a widget that shows quick status updates like Facebook and Twitter do, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The move would further turn Gmail, which revolutionized online e-mail, into a comprehensive communications hub. The intent is to keep people’s attention centered on Google, by making Gmail, not Facebook, people’s first stop online — and their default place to send and receive messages. Gmail users can already chat via Jabber or AIM, make video calls, and send SMS messages from Gmail’s web interface.

Google has been trying to fashion Gmail into more than an e-mail service for years. The service currently lets users set an “away message,” which can be a link to a Web page, that their friends see when they instant-message them. Now, it plans to launch a new interface that will aggregate updates from more friends in a stream.

LG thinks its found the antidote to bulky and unwieldy touchscreen mobiles with its new miniature handset.

The super-slim LG Mini manages to pack in a 3.2-inch touchscreen phone, WiFi, GPS, and a 5-megapixel camera with face detection.
Designed to slip comfortably in a shirt pocket or a tiny handbag, the phone has also been built to stand up to modern living with its textured metal side panels which LG calls “reassuringly solid to the touch”.

For staying in touch on the move, the phone comes with push email and Social Network Connect – giving built-in access to Facebook and Twitter. Browsing the sites should also be fast with the Mini’s 7.2Mbps HSDPA connection.

The LG Mini will be available in the UK from April with price and full specifications to be confirmed closer to the date.

Megan Fox enrols a ‘hand double’ as she peels off for sexy Super Bowl advert.

In Hollywood, it is commonplace for shy stars to enrol a body double for a sex scene.
But while Megan Fox happily went naked in her latest film Jennifer’s Body, it appears she isn’t quite so confident with her hands.
In her latest role, starring in a one-off Super Bowl advert for Motorola, it appears the actress has enlisted a hand double.

80 million Facebook users will be getting a new long-planned design tonight. A simplified design provides easy access to your entire Facebook experience.

Facebook says, The new design is basically what we’ve been examining in detail since the first test screenshots appeared last October.

App-driven updates from your friends also show up in the stream, so it is a very good way to keep up with what’s going on in your circle. And thanks to the new prominent filter function, it’s easy to see just the updates from people in your networks. This is like the mythical “groups” feature that Twitter users are waiting for. You can easily see just the updates from people at your company or school, or from a particular app, and then pop back to the full feed and see all your friends. I like the ability to hide updates from contacts I’m not especially interested in.

Motorola is adding another device into its Android arsenal. The Motorola Devour, officially announced on Wednesday, will be available on Verizon Wireless starting in March. At a glance, the Devour has a similar form to the Droid. Inside, however, this phone is a very different beast.

The Devour has a 3.1-inch, 320-by-480 pixel touchscreen. The resolution is comparable to the iPhone but lower than the Droid, which boasts a 3.7-inch, 480-by-854 pixel display. While specifics about the Devour’s processor have yet to be revealed, the phone is expected to be more of a midrange Android option compared to Droid’s higher-end status. It’s rumored to run on the Qualcomm 600-MHz MSM7627.

Like the Droid, the Motorola Devour features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The two phones’ similarities pretty much end there. The Devour has an optical trackpad directly beneath its display. It’s said to pack a 3-megapixel camera with digital zoom, along with an accelerometer and dual microphones for noise cancellation. The Devour comes preloaded with an 8GB microSD card.

Google Chrome finally has an answer to Firefox’s add-ons; we recommend eleven of our favorite Google Chrome extensions.

Google Chrome has finally added extensions to its bag of tricks. True, there are nowhere near as many extensions available for Google’s Chrome 4 browser as there are for Mozilla’s Firefox 3.6, but many of them already duplicate the better Firefox add-ons. Many, too, are little more than buttons that present mini, widget-like versions of Web apps, but I found plenty that added real functionality to Google Chrome. Check out my picks and see if they make Chrome-style browsing more to your taste. If they don’t, one of the best things about Google Chrome’s extensions is that they’re incredibly easy to both install and uninstall: If the extension adds a button, a simple right-click lets you get rid of the offending extension.

Following are some of the cool google chrome extensions.

Mozilla Firefox’s most wanted add-on FireBug is now available in google chrome.

Firebug Lite is not a substitute for Firebug, or Chrome Developer Tools. It is a tool to be used in conjunction with these tools. Firebug Lite provides the rich visual representation we are used to see in Firebug when it comes to HTML elements, DOM elements, and Box Model shading. It provides also some cool features like inspecting HTML elemements with your mouse, and live editing CSS properties. Firebug Lite 1.3.0 beta for Google Chrome is basically the same you’ll see when using the bookmarlet.

Twitter has just introduced a new feature for its users: Hovercards, a new way to access profile information without actually visiting someone’s profile.

In an announcement, Twitter Spokesperson Jenna Sampson discussed how the new feature works:

“Hovercards are cards which appear when you hover over a username or avatar. The cards display additional information about the person and allow you to interact with them while staying within the context of your page.”

If you hover over a person’s username in your timeline, their profile information, location, and whether you follow them will appear. You also get the options menu, which allows you to follow, block, mention, or report someone right there.
